More options to start your yacht charter holiday in Greece: Charter fleets with sailing yachts and catamarans are now available from more base ports.
Sailing from Athens does not mean automatically starting from Alimos Marina in Kalamaki any more. Even if most charter fleets in this area are based there, some operators now offer sailing yachts and catamarans from 3 other ports as an alternative.
Agios Kosmas Marina is lying around 5 km south of Kalamaki in Glyfada. Here was the center of the Olympic sailing activities during the Olympic summer games in Athens in 2004. This marina is very modern and is home port of a charter fleet already for two years now.
Flisvos Marina is located just 3 km north of Kalamaki in Paleo Faliro. This is an exclusive marina, ideal as well for mega yachts. Yacht charterers can find there fine dining and noble shopping places.
Zeas Marina is in Pireus. The busy marina, as well known as a superyacht marina, is as well an interesting starting point for your yacht charter holiday in Greece. In ancient times it was a naval base where warships were built. Today some ancient walls are still standing, and Marina Zeas is home to the Naval Museum of Greece.
If you want to start your charter cruise on the Peloponnese: One bareboat yacht charter fleet is now based in Nafplion. The busy town with a lot of cafes and restaurants was the capital of the first hellenic republic and the Kingdom of Greece from 1829 until 1834. It was mentioned already more than 1000 years B.C. and has a rather interesting history. The fortress of Palamidi above the old town is worth a visit and offers a spectacular view. The water castle Bourtzi is lying directly in front of the harbour – the most typical view of Nafplion.
In the Cyclades Islands the island of Milos is now homeport to a small charter base. Some crewed sailing catamarans are based here as well. The island is well known for spectacular rocks in many colours, and for the Syrmata, small houses built directly at the sea. Their ground floors are serving as boat garages in the winter seasons. Milos is a perfect port of embarkation to discover the Southern Aegean Sea including Santorini.
Many years yacht charter crews have been waiting for sailing yachts based in Makedonia and Thracia and the area of Chalkidiki in the Thracian Sea. Now you can start your cruise for example from Chalkidiki, with the ports of Porto Koufo or Porto Carras or Nea Marmara, from Thassos island which is part of the Thracian Sporades, from Kalamata or Keramoti.
