Mahé, site of the international airport, is the biggest and most elevated of the islands: Mahé’s tallest peak is Morne Seychellois at almost 3.000 feet. Large mangrove swamps in the North, cloud forests, and numerous offshore islands are the distinctive features of the scenery. Almost 90 percent of the population of the Seychelles, over 70.000 people, live on Mahé. The most important sights: the Morne Seychellois National Park, the Victoria National History Museum, the Victoria Botanical Gardens – but above all the colonial architecture of Victoria.
